THE DESIGNER
Rashid Abdelhamid is a star of sustainable design in the Arab world and a respected revivalist of traditional mud brick architecture, he holds a Masters of Architecture from the University of Grenoble, France, and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from the University of Florence. Abdelhamid is the visionary designer behind Hotel Al-Deira, Gaza’s first boutique hotel, and the principal force behind the establishment of Arts and Crafts Village in Gaza. He is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of alhoush.com, a website dedicated to the sale and promotion of art and design from the Arab world. A renaissance man of Palestinian-Serbian origin who is deeply committed to the sustainable development of Palestine and the Gaza Strip, Abdelhamid currently resides in Amman, where he heads several projects for Made in Palestine Project, and travels frequently to Palestine to assist in projects that support art, culture, and development.
KEFFIEH SCARFS:
“Made in Palestine Project” keffieh scarves are created by Palestinian designer Rashid Abdelhamid. He adds lively and upbeat colors to traditional Palestinian keffiehs, fusing tradition and modernity to tell a Palestine full of life.
Rashid Abdelhamid draws inspiration from the traditional Palestinian keffieh but adds his own innovative touch by using modern fabrics and bold motifs. His “Made in Palestine” scarves are comprised of an array of materials that are selected with care. Each scarf is unique and can be worn in a variety of ways.
